About Water Main Repair CA

A team built around infrastructure knowledge and direct communication with homeowners. We do one type of work and try to do it well.

Background

How Water Main Repair CA came to be

Water Main Repair CA grew out of field work — technicians who spent years working on municipal infrastructure and residential service lines, and eventually formed an independent operation focused specifically on this type of work. We are not a general plumbing company that also handles water mains. This is the core of what we do.

Our base is in Cobourg, Ontario, and we serve communities across the province. Over the years we have worked with homeowners, property managers, and buyers across municipalities ranging from small towns to mid-sized cities.

The reason we focus narrowly on water main work is simple: it requires a specific combination of skills — knowledge of municipal systems, utility coordination, excavation, pressure testing, and pipe materials — that is different from general residential plumbing. We built the team around those skills.

Our Approach

How we approach the work

🔍

Assess before acting

We do not recommend repair or replacement before understanding what is actually happening. A pressure test and detection assessment come first, every time. This avoids unnecessary excavation and gives you accurate information.

📝

Written scope before work begins

Every job has a written scope of work before excavation starts. This includes what we plan to do, why, how long it is expected to take, and what the site will look like when we leave. No surprises.

🏛️

Permit and municipal coordination

Work near the curb stop or municipal connection requires permits and coordination with your local utility. We handle this process — the homeowner does not need to navigate it. We track the application and timeline.

🧪

Pressure test before we leave

After a repair or replacement, the line is pressure-tested before the trench is closed. This confirms the repair is holding before the site is restored. We do not backfill until we have a passing test.

🏡

Site restoration is part of the job

Backfill, compaction, and grading are included in the job scope. We do not leave uncompacted mounds or erosion hazards. Any paving or landscaping restoration is agreed upon in writing before the job starts.

📞

Accessible during the job

You can reach us during the work. If something unexpected comes up — a different pipe material, deeper installation than expected, an adjacent utility — we contact you before changing the scope.

Development Timeline

How we grew into this work

2008–2011
Municipal infrastructure background
Core team members worked on municipal water main installation and repair projects across Northumberland and Peterborough regions. This is where the technical foundation was built.
2012–2014
Residential service line focus
After years of larger projects, the shift toward residential service lines came from seeing how many homeowners were getting inconsistent information and advice. We started taking on these jobs directly.
2015
Water Main Repair CA established
The company was formally established in Cobourg, Ontario, with a focus exclusively on residential and light commercial water service line work.
2018–2019
Trenchless capability added
Added trenchless repair and replacement to the service offering with certified equipment and training. Now evaluated as an option on every applicable job.
2020 – Present
Expanded Ontario service area
Now working across 22 Ontario municipalities. Pre-purchase inspection work has grown significantly as buyers become more aware of service line risk in older homes.

Safety & Responsibility

How we handle the responsibility of this work

Working on underground infrastructure involves potential hazards — utility conflicts, confined space considerations, and the fact that excavation mistakes can create secondary damage that costs more to fix than the original problem. We take this seriously.

Before any excavation, we submit a locate request through Ontario One Call. This ensures underground utilities are marked before digging begins. This is a legal requirement, and we treat it as a non-negotiable step regardless of how straightforward the job looks.

We carry liability insurance appropriate for this type of work. A copy of our certificate of insurance is available on request before any work begins.

We follow municipal requirements for shoring, traffic control, and working near the road. If a job requires a lane closure or temporary road permit, we obtain it. This is part of coordinating the job properly, not an optional extra.
